The Shipboard Geophysical Group provides services and equipment for marine seismic research methods—specializing in Low-Fold High Speed profiling--to academic researchers on Scripps or non-Scripps research vessels. The geophysical equipment pool includes sound source equipment, hydrophone streamers, seismic event controllers, graphic recorders and a digital seismic acquisition system. SGG can provide and operate sources from 45 to 4450 cubic inches for reflection or refraction research programs. Likewise for receiving data, SGG offers streamers (one to four channels) as well as sonobuoys and sonobuoy receivers.
The group also
maintains the echosounding systems installed on all Scripps vessels and the
magnetometer sytems on R/V's Melville and Roger Revelle.

News flash: Knudsen echosounders produce true SEG-Y output! The chirp-capable, deep-water KEL 320B/R system is now in service on all SIO ships. For more info, see the SIOSEIS examples page.
