· Knudsen 320B/R Digital Sonar Transceiver - This system features digital signal processing of the acoustic data, including correlation processing ("chirp") technology. Two frequency modes are available: the system may be operated in the Low Frequency mode, in which a variable length pulse sweeps from 2 to 7 kHz, providing a high-resolution sub-bottom profile. Or, the user may select the High Frequency mode, sweeping from 10 to 14 kHz to produce a profile of the water-bottom. There is also a Pinger mode of operation, for use with 12 kHz down-wire pingers.
· Edo Western 248e Sonar Transceiver - the last generation echosounder, acquired from 1977 through 1984. Still in use for backup on R/V's New Horizon and Sproul.
· EPC 9800 Thermal Graphic Recorder - installed with the Knudsen 320B/R systems for an optional hardcopy of the data.
· Massa TR-75 transducers - the low-frequency transducer (resonant at 4.0 kHz), these are installed in square arrays of 16 elements on both Melville and New Horizon.
· Edo Western 323B 12 kHz transducers - these transducers are in use on R/V's Sproul, New Horizon and Melville. For more info, see the Edo Corp. product page.
· Geometrics G-886 Marine Proton Magnetometer - Installed on both of our high-endurance ships, R/V's Melville and Roger Revelle.
